The WPT Canadian Spring Championship features three Day 1s: Day 1a will start at 11am on Friday April 29th, Day 1b will start at 11am on Saturday April 30th, and Day 1c will start at 11am on Sunday May 1st.

Where is the series being held?

The Playground Poker Spring Classic is being held at Playground Poker Club in Kahnawake, QC. Kahnawake is located just minutes away from downtown Montreal across the Mercier Bridge.
We have prepared a custom Google Map with important locations saved: http://goo.gl/maps/9ZvcB

Can I buy a souvenir of my trip to Playground Poker Club?

Yes. We offer a full range of caps, T-Shirts, hoodies, and other souvenirs. Please visit the Player Services desk near the front entrance to see the choices offered and make your purchase.
Please note that ALL tournament chips are the property of Playground Poker Club and in no circumstances may any denomination of tournament chip be removed by a player for any reason whatsoever. The action of removing one or more tournament chips from play will result in a player's immediate disqualification from the event and permanent exclusion from all future activities held at Playground Poker Club.

Where can I find more information about everything going on at Playground Poker Club before, during, or after the Playground Poker Spring Classic 2015?

Playground Poker Club works hard to communicate with players across several channels throughout the year, including:

  • The Playground Poker Club website: https://playgroundpoker.ca/ For monthly event calendars, official club information, event ticket purchasing, and more.
  • Our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/playgroundpokerclub For daily updates on tournaments and cash games and info updated several times per day.
  • Playground Poker Spring Classic Event blog: For daily tournament updates and photos for every event in the series.

What tournament rules are in effect in Playground Poker Club events?

All events will be managed according to the rules set out by the Poker Tournament Directors Association (TDA). You may download a copy of the TDA rules from the Poker TDA website in one of several convenient formats.
For specific information about each event, players should consult the "Rules and Structure" sheet. This is available for every event in PDF format at the following address: https://playgroundpoker.ca/springclassic2016.

Does Playground Poker Club have any “house rules” that players should be aware of before playing in an event?

Playground Poker Club procedures adhere to internationally recognized best practices for tournament poker. Players may consult our published rules and procedures booklet at any time or ask any floor manager or tournament director for clarification on any of the finer points of the rules or procedures in place.
There is one procedure that players should be aware of that is slightly different than the procedure in many other tournaments. Playground Poker Club dealers are trained and empowered to administer a called clock. If a player calls for a clock on another player, the dealer will immediately assess whether the request is appropriate and, if so, will begin the 60-second countdown. Players will be notified when 30 seconds have elapsed and, once 50 seconds have elapsed, the dealer will begin a verbal countdown of the final 10 seconds. At the end of the 60 seconds, the player's hand is dead.
In our experience, this procedure removes some of the stigma of calling the clock in tournament play and contributes to the maintenance of a healthy pace of tournament play.

Do I have to be a member of Playground Poker Club to play in these events?

Yes, all players must be Playground Poker Club members to play. Membership is free and requires proper (government-issued) identification. Players may sign up for their Players Card in person at the club or online at https://www.playgroundpoker.ca/sign-up. Players must be 18 years of age or older to play.

Travel Questions

How do I get to Montreal?

Air: Fly to Pierre Elliot Trudeau Airport, served by most major airlines. The airport code is YUL.
Train: Montreal is served by daily service on Amtrak (from New York City) and VIA Rail (from Canadian cities). The train station is named Gare Centrale.
Car: To drive to Montreal from New York State, Western Connecticut, New Jersey, and other points South and West, the best route is to travel to I-87 North and continue on Autoroute 15 North once you cross the border into Quebec.
To drive to Montreal from New England (Eastern Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, etc.) the best option is to travel to I-89 North and continue on Route 133 and then Autoroute 10 once you have crossed into Canada.

Once I’m in the Montreal area, how do I get to Playground Poker Club?

The best way to travel to and from Playground Poker Club is by car. From downtown Montreal, the best route is to take Autoroute 720 West (Ville Marie Expressway) to Autoroute 20 West and then follow the signs for the Mercier Bridge/Chateauguay. Cross the bridge and continue straight on Route 138. Playground Poker Club is on the right at the third traffic signal. There is ample parking for all players on site.
Alternatively you may take a taxi. Any taxi in Montreal will bring you to Playground Poker Club. It may be helpful to describe the route to a taxi driver in some cases – just tell the driver to cross the Mercier Bridge to the South Shore and continue straight to the third light. Playground Poker Club is on the right.

Payment & Registration Questions

How can I buy in to the event directly?

There are a few options.

  • You can come to Playground Poker Club and buy your ticket in person for any event.
  • You can buy your ticket online via https://playgroundpoker.ca/ using VISA or Mastercard.
  • You can email reservations@playgroundpoker.ca to enquire about other options such as wire transfer.

When you purchase your ticket directly from Playground Poker Club for any event you will be given a receipt with your seating assignment. Please present this receipt and valid photo ID to the dealer at the assigned table to receive your starting chip stack. If you have not purchased your ticket in person at the club, we will hold your receipt for you. When you get to Playground Poker Club, simply go to the cashier/cage with ID to receive the original copy of your receipt(s).

Note: All pre-registered players will see their stacks introduced into play at the very start of the tournament, and blinded off until their arrival at the table. If a player fails to present themselves for a tournament they have registered for, their stack will remain in play and will be blinded off in its entirety. This is also applicable to players who have qualified for an event through an online or onsite satellite.

Can I get a duplicate receipt for my buy-in?

Your original receipt serves as a seating ticket and must be given to the dealer in order for a player to start a tournament. We will be happy to provide players with a duplicate receipt for their records – just ask a tournament floor manager at any time and they will print the duplicate and bring it to you.

When does registration open for the series?

Registration for all events is open now.

I won a seat in a satellite tournament. Can I cash out my ticket?

No, event registrations (including live satellite seats) are non-refundable but they are transferable. Players wishing to transfer their registration must contact the cashier at Playground Poker Club to facilitate the transfer (both parties are required). Transfers are free.

How to I transfer my seat to another player?

To transfer your seat to another player, the original ticket holder and the person buying the ticket must go to the cage/cashier together. Each player must present his or her Player’s Card as well as a piece of government-issued ID.
All transfers must be completed at least 2 hours prior to the scheduled starting time for the event in question. After this deadline, transfers will no longer be permitted. All tournament entry tickets are non-refundable.

What information do I need to do a Wire Transfer?

Please send an email to reservations@playgroundpoker.ca to arrange a wire transfer. Our staff will walk you through the process to ensure that you are able to successfully buy in to the tournaments you wish to play.

What is the exchange rate for US$?

US$ will be bought at a competitive house rate. NOTE that this rate is different than the Bank of Canada rate or institutional rates published on most Foreign Exchange sites. Please call the cashier at any time to enquire about the current rate.

If I buy in with US$ and cash in the event, can I be paid out in US$?

No, unfortunately this is not possible. The currency used at Playground Poker Club is Canadian dollars, and all prize payouts will be made in Canadian dollars.

Will my winnings be taxed?

No, players who cash in any event will receive a coupon for the full amount of the prize at the tournament desk. These coupons must be redeemed for cash at the Playground Poker Club cashier. There are no withholdings from the amount of the prize awarded. Players are responsible for any taxes they may owe based on residency or nationality but Playground Poker Club is not involved in any way with such reporting or remittance.

Are there any other withholdings I should be aware of?

Yes, as is the case with almost all events of this scale around the world, Playground Poker Club withholds 3% of the total prize pool of every event for staff gratuities. This withholding is taken before the final payouts are awarded, so players will receive the full amount listed on their prize coupon.

Cash Game Questions

Will there be cash games running during the series?

Yes, we will have a full range of cash games running 24 hours a day during the series (as is the case 365 days a year).

What games? What stakes?

Playground Poker Club routinely spreads No Limit Hold’em, No Limit Pineapple, Pot Limit Omaha and Omaha-Hold’em mixed games. We also have dealers who are trained in many other variants of poker including stud and lowball games as well as more extensive mixed games.
We normally spread No Limit Hold’em and Pot Limit Omaha games at the following stakes: $1-$2, $1-$3, $2-$5, $5-$5, $5-$10, $10-$25. During larger events such as poker seriess we often spread games at higher stakes. Maximum buy-in amounts vary depending on the stakes, and in small stakes games we often open "deep" variants with higher buy-in limits. Players who wish to open games at stakes that differ from what is currently running are encouraged to ask the Floor Managers to start an interest list.
